10 great walks in the Peak District and Derbyshire

From challenging hikes to relaxing riverside strolls, here's a handy list of some of the best walks in the Peak District and Derbyshire.

Here’s a handy list of some of the best walks in the Peak District and Derbyshire, ranging from challenging hikes to relaxing riverside strolls.

These walks take in some of the best views of Peak District landscape and take you through some of the most beautiful Derbyshire villages.

Experience the diversity of this fascinating National Park, such as the famous dark gritstone of Kinder Scout and the magnificent gritstone escarpment of Stanage Edge, just two examples of how every Peak District walking route has its own unique characteristics.

The villages of Castleton and Bakewell in Derbyshire are two very popular starting points for walks in the Peak District and are also great places to stay, with a host of charming pubs, hotels and self-catering cottages welcoming walkers.

One of these walks has incredible historic and cultural importance; Kinder Scout, starting from Hayfield, is the route walked by the brave ramblers who took part in the Mass Trespass. Having occurred 85 years ago this spring, this peaceful protest paved the way for the Access Land to become free to explore, as at that time, in 1932, walking on owned land was forbidden.

There are also two walking routes that take you around the grounds of Chatsworth, giving you a chance to see the ‘Palace of the Peak’ in the stunning surroundings of the rolling Derbyshire hills.

Whenever you are walking in the Peak District and Derbyshire, it's always important to plan your route, bring a map, wear suitable footwear and keep a compass handy.

Respect, Protect, Enjoy: Whether you're a regular or brand new visitor, we want to make your trip to the Peak District & Derbyshire as safe, easy and enjoyable as possible.
